The demand for package delivery by drones has been more evident in the past year of the pandemic with many institutions relying on drones to deliver medical goods and essential supplies.

With vaccines now available, San Francisco-based company Zipline  recently began delivering Oxford-AstraZeneca鈥檚 Covid-19 vaccine doses using autonomous drones, as part of the COVAX initiative, a project working to expedite production and equitable worldwide access to coronavirus vaccines, as well as tests and treatments, according to an article by Smithsonian Magazine.

Because of the growing need for drone package delivery, the FAA proposed In November, 2020 airworthiness criteria for type certification of delivery drones with an intent to initialize commercial operations. 10 companies were selected for this type certification, including Zipline, Wingcopter, and Amazon Prime Air.
