The NYCDFF is the oldest and probably the biggest drone film festival in the world. It was founded in 2014 by director and aerial cinematographer Randy Scott Slavin, with the overall mission of changing the perceptions of drones. “People have never seen the inside of a volcano before. But drones have gone there,” the filmmaker says of the airborne, remote-controlled computers. “There are so many ways these technologies can be used for good.” […] Over the last several years, drone technology has been more associated with more controversial topics than aerial selfies — stuff like targeted airstrikes in the Middle East (and unexpected landings on the White House lawn), rather than film or art. – Read more:

The award categories for this year’s drone filmfest have been expanded from nine to eleven and from being a one-night event to a 3-day happening, Slavin said on the NYCDFF website.

Steve Cohen, President of the Drone User Group Network said the winning NYCDFF films will be screened all day on the last day and there will FPV racing demonstrations, discussions, “Drone Wars” in a safe, netted area and “The Drone Runway,” a chance for custom builders to show off their stuff.

In recent years, fascination for drones in aerial film/video/photography has rapidly spread, demand for uav aerial photography services continues to rise, setting new trends in these creative industries.

Drones indeed are innovative tools and events such as the coming drone film festival are excellent ways to showcase the artistry of filmmakers and drone enthusiasts with a penchant for aerial photography/cinematography. Hopefully, the film festival will also help dispel the negative perceptions some people have of drones.
